I am very excited to be running for Term 3, 2023 a sounds to print workshop that will assist your child to develop their reading and writing skills.
Did you know that the English language has 44 sounds? Each of these sounds (phonemes) have spellings(graphemes) that are used to represent the sounds and it can be different from one word to another. For example: the sound /ae/ can be spelled <a>, <ai>, <ea>, <a-e>, <ey>, etc. as in play, rain, great, cake and they.
While the English language is complex and can be challenging to master, explicit instruction with a structured synthetic phonics approach has been shown to get the best results.
This 8 week unit of work for Years 1 – 2 will focus on building students’ code knowledge as well as building their skills to blend and segment words. Sentence construction and reading will also be a key part of each lesson.
The sessions are held in a homeschooling environment for a small group of homeschoolers. At this stage, there will only be 8 spots available. The 8 x 1 hour ‘sounds to print’ sessions will be held on a Wednesday each week. With this writing workshop, your child will:
- participate in multisensory, structured synthetic phonics lessons
- learn some vowel and consonant sounds that are represented by alternative spellings
- develop skills to deal with polysyllabic words
- practice their letter formation
- develop sentence writing skills
- receive home tasks to further support the consolidation of the learning
- participate in shared writing and independent writing
- read and write poems
- directly improve their reading skills and vocabulary
Cost is $20 each session for a total of 8 sessions.
Workshop time: 12:30 – 1:30 at a homeschooling home in Wellard.
First Workshop begins on July 26th with the last workshop held on 13th September.
