Reading of Independent Poetry Verse …
Students shared their independently created ‘simile’ verses with the class. The students had made some great efforts with their own similes.
When I blew the golden trumpet
This week the class focused on the last verse of our model text:
VERSE 3 (Pie Corbett)
After I laid down my golden trumpet,
I folded up my shadow,
packed my pockets with promises and
left the room alone,
with its cold heart ticking.
Here was the class innovation of the last verse
After I packed up my drum kit,
I collected my old raggedy suitcase,
and found a rusty key that led me out to a silent serene space,
with its clouds trickling full of imagination.
Home Tasks
- Rewrite your own FINAL VERSE – using the boxing up sheet. Type up all the verses you have created (verse 1, 2, 3 and 4). Re-read your poem, making sure you are happy with your word choices and then please send through your poem to me. I will add your poem to a poetry page for poets, such as yourself and then share your poems with the other poets in our class. I can’t wait to see all the completed poems. Even if your child is only able to produce a verse or two, I’d still LOVE to have them. All achievement is a celebration!
- Here is a copy of the boxing up sheet just in case you have lost yours. Poetry boxing up
