Week 3 Meeting Tale Notes 1-2

Welcome to Week 3 Meeting Tale Notes

Today’s lesson was focused on the story pattern, character discussion and writing an opening.

Specifically, the students today:

 – orally reviewed the story following along with the story map

– looked at the story pattern using a story mountain

– discussed ideas for alternate main characters and a contrasting visitor

– made a decision on their main character and contrasting visitor

– co-constructed the opening sentence for our class meeting tale

– wrote their opening sentence for their own meeting tale

– learnt about writing dialogue and wrote a basic sentence using speech marks

Class Meeting Tale

Opening:

Once there was a granny who was having a cup of tea. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Granny said, “who can that be?”

Note: As we write this tale, we will keep the tale simple to work on the key features. The independent writing can be a tedious and lengthy process at a foundational level. This is always dependent on the individual child’s ability. We will aim to keep the children on track and moving along. If you wish to extend and have the time, please do so.

This could be as simple as adding to the bits we didn’t quite get to in class.

Home Tasks

  1. Add any extra details to the class story main character (Granny) and the visitor (wolf). Magpie Journal page 29 & 30
  2. Draw your own character and visitor for a meeting tale (Magpie journal page 8 and 9).
  3. Write the opening for their own story (A4 sheet sent home). We are keeping the text output at a simplified version to focus on key features and have the students produce their own complete story.
