One of my absolute favourite household appliances is my shampoo carpet cleaner. I originally brought a Vax carpet cleaner about a decade ago and whilst it did get a good workout it really didn’t last the distance which was such a shame. The most outrageous thing about the Vax was that it needed a repair to continue working but the company didn’t make parts for the machine anymore and nothing could be done to then fix it. LANDFILL. That did make me feel cranky … same with our Westinghouse fridge … I’ll talk about our fridge experiences in another post.
Anyways, if you have carpet, then having your own carpet cleaner is essential. YES, it’s a lifesaver! I’ve had coffee spilt, a child spew his guts all over a couch cushion, wine spilt onto the carpet and the list goes on. Thankfully, whenever this happens, I can just go grab my carpet cleaner and it deals with it immedietly.
I can clean my couches, carpets, rugs and all at my own leisure; clean a room, a couch, a rug at a time convenient to me. I know this machine has saved me dollars. I did spend a little bit more than I first intended, but I am very glad I did because thus far I am very happy with the Bissell Pro Heat 2X Pet Carpet Cleaner. And seriously, I know for sure that I am already ahead given the cost to have someone come and clean my carpets and couches for me.
In deciding on which carpet cleaner to purchase, I read lots and lots of reviews and after all of that, I compared prices online and finally ordered through applicancesonline.com.au. The link to the Bissell Carpet Cleaner machine is here. We have ordered a number of large appliances through this company and have had great service and fast delivery with them. Their prices are great, they price match, include free, next day shipping and include free removal & recycling of old products. Love that!

The Bissell machine came with some free chemicals and I did use them to begin with; however, all I could then smell was that unpleasant chemical smell. I researched a little and came across a lady who actually used Thieves essential oils cleaner in a steam cleaning machine and so I tried using a capful of the thieves cleaner to the water reservoir instead. Was much better and still did the job. This is now my method. So much better for everyone using chemical free cleaners. You can read about how grotty this lady’s floors were before and after here ‘Carpet Cleaning with Young Living Thieves Cleaner’.
Another tip I came across on the Young Living website was as follows:
Carpet Spot Cleaner
- 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner
- 6 cups water
Mix water and Thieves Household Cleaner in a spray bottle, shaking to combine. To use, lightly spray the spot and blot with a clean white cloth. Repeat as needed.
And just to re cover my natural cleaning solution method for my Bissell Carpet Cleaner…
Thieves Carpet Cleaning Solution for a Carpet Cleaning Machine
- Fill the carpet cleaner’s water tank with hot water to the line.
- Add 1 cap of Thieves Household Cleaner.
- If you like, also add 5 – 10 drops of your favourite essential oils (see note below)
- Swish the tank to mix
- Clean your carpets.
Some of the best cleaning essential oils that have antibacterial and anti-fungal properties are as follows: cinnamon, clove, geranium, lavender, lemon, tea tree, lime, orange, oregano, rosemary, thyme, thieves blend and peppermint.
I am pretty happy with my purchase and love the ease of use, convenience and quality of the Bissell machine thus far. Owning a carpet cleaner is such a great investment for maintaining your home carpets, rugs and couches.
