FULL CLASS – Get excited for the Year 5 – 8 Term 1 Writing Workshop!

 

On offer for a small group of homeschooling students in Years 5 – 8 Term 1, 2024, is a ‘SEVEN Week Writing Workshop‘. This term is set to be an exciting exploration of fantasy maps and creative writing with a focus on description of imaginary worlds.

The first workshop begins on February 7th with the last workshop on 20th March, start time is at 11:00 am and concludes at 12:30 am

Students need to bring a water bottle, hat if required and snacks if they like. All other writing equipment is provided.

Teaching Style

Students engage in fun short-burst writing activities, drama, poetry, the creation of text maps, boxing up the structure of a model text, shared writing, reading, guided writing and independent creations. The approach is multi-sensory with lots of interaction and appropriately paced activities throughout a session. 

With this writing workshop, your child will:

  • engage with other young writers in reading, drama, activities and writing
  • build on their grammar, comprehension and vocabulary 
  • identify patterns in writing
  • write list poems, descriptive writing and give feedback
  • directly improve their reading skills
  • participate in shared writing and writing independently
  • receive their own authors ‘Magpie Journal’ to organise their writing and collect ‘word treasures’

Only one workshop is available at this stage with limited spots open for homeschooling families.
