I am excited to be running again for Term 2, 2024, a phonics workshop that will assist your child to develop their reading and writing skills specifically beyond initial sounds and basic blending and segmenting.
Did you know that the English language has 44 sounds? Each of these sounds (phonemes) have spellings(graphemes) that are used to represent the sounds and it can be different from one word to another. For example: the sound /ae/ can be spelled <a>, <ai>, <ea>, <a-e>, <ey>, etc. as in play, rain, great, cake and they.
While the English language is complex and can be challenging to master, my phonics workshops offer explicit instruction combined with a structured synthetic phonics approach, which has consistently proven to yield the best results.
This extended phonics unit is ideal for homeschooling students who possess a reasonably strong grasp of blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds and spellings, particularly with three, four, and five-sound words structured as CVC, VCC, CVCC, CCVC, and CCVCC.
The sessions take place in a homeschooling environment, catering to a small group of homeschoolers, with limited spots available at this stage. These one-hour sessions will occur every Wednesday. Through this writing workshop, your child will:
- engage in multisensory, structured synthetic phonics lessons.
- learn that many sounds that are represented by alternative spellings.
- develop skills to tackle polysyllabic words.
- practice letter formation.
- develop sentence writing skills.
- receive home tasks to reinforce their learning.
- read decodable texts to support their reading.
- directly improve their reading skills and vocabulary.
Cost is $165 for 8 weekly sessions.
Workshop time: 9:30 – 10:30 each Wednesday at a homeschooling home in Wellard.
First Workshop begins on Wednesday, April 24th with the last workshop for the term held on Wednesday, 12th June.
